Originally built at Lock Haven as a PA-18A for agricultural use, it received the "S" designation in 1956 certifying it for seaplane operations, creating the PA-18AS—a designation shared by only five PA-18s in existence. The aircraft has spent its entire life in Nebraska and recently emerged from a painstaking, more than three-year, nut-and-bolt restoration by Muhle Aviation Works in Columbus, Nebraska, completed in 2023.
