This 1942 Curtiss P-40K, registration N401WS, is a historically significant World War II fighter with a total time of 434 hours on the airframe. It was originally allocated to the U.S. Army Air Forces as serial 42-10256 before being delivered to the Soviet Air Force under Lend-Lease, where it saw combat on the Eastern Front. The aircraft was shot down in September 1943 during an engagement with four German Bf 109 fighters and made a forced gear-up landing near Murmansk. It was fully restored by Fagen Fighters and was awarded Grand Champion WWII at Oshkosh in 2006.
